Stand and Deliver has been selected, along with 24 other films, to be preserved in the National Registry of the Library of Congress.

The 1988 film stars Edward James Olmos as Jaime Escalante, a real-life teacher who dared to challenge the students of an inner-city school to reach for their dreams through higher mathematics. Mr. Olmos was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Escalante.

Each year, the National Registry chooses to archive a selection of movies that have played (and continue to play) an important role in the fabric of American history, culture, and artistry, and are of enduring value.
