On Tuesday, Filly Brown is set to open the New York International Latino Film Festival's 13th edition.

The screening officially opens the festival at 7 p.m. at Chelsea Clearview Cinemas. Scheduling and ticket information can be found HERE.

Directed by Youssef Delara and Michael D. Olmos, Filly Brown tells the story of "a tough L.A. street poet" whose "life becomes a roller coaster when she tries to get her mother out of jail." It stars Gina Rodriguez, Jenni Rivera, Lou Diamond Phillips and Edward James Olmos.

Last week, film stars Rodriguez, a sensation at the Sundance Film Festival, and Philips walked away with top acting honors from the 2012 Imagen Awards.

The film is scheduled for theatrical release on September 21.

Sponsored by HBO, the NYILFF will kick off on Monday, with a presentation of Selena at Cinema Under The Stars, a free outdoor screening at St. Nicholas Park on St. Nicholas Avenue and 135th Street in Manhattan.
