Filly Brown is continuing its role as the opening act for Latino film festivals, this time launching the 23rd annual Latin American Film Festival in Silver Spring, Maryland.
The screening is at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow night at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center. Star Lou Diamond Phillips and filmmakers Youssef Delara and Michael D. Olmos are expected to be in attendance at the festival, which celebrates the best of filmmaking from Latin American, as well as films from Spain and Portugal. Fifty films were selected for the festival this year.
Directed by Youssef Delara and Michael D. Olmos, Filly Brown tells the story of “a tough L.A. street poet” whose “life becomes a roller coaster when she tries to get her mother out of jail.” It stars Gina Rodriguez, Jenni Rivera, Lou Diamond Phillips and Edward James Olmos. Stars Rodriguez, a sensation at the Sundance Film Festival, and Philips walked away with top acting honors from the 2012 Imagen Awards.
