Hispanically Speaking News is reporting that Olmos Productions is partnering with Animex on a 3D-animated film called "El Americano: The Movie." The film would be the first animated production between the U.S. and Mexico.
Edward James Olmos is expected to voice one of the main characters in the film, which follows a Mexican parrot named Cuco a quest "to enlist the aid of an American crime-fighting TV celebrity, to defend his family in Mexico from bullies."
Michael D. Olmos, co-director of "Filly Brown" and son of Edward James Olmos, spearheaded the development of the project for Olmos Productions, working in conjuction with Animex representatives. Ricardo Arnaiz and Mike Kunkel (Disney animator for "Tarzan" and "Hercules") have been tapped to direct. The Simpsons Bill Roman, winner of six Emmys, will serve as production supervisor and executive producer.
