Filly Brown is set to open the New York International Latino Film Festival's 13th installment.

The screening, which officially opens the festival, is scheduled for Tuesday, August 14, at 7 p.m. at Chelsea Clearview Cinemas.

Filly Brown, directed by Youssef Delara and Michael D. Olmos, stars Gina Rodriguez, Jenni Rivera, Edward James Olmos, and Lou Diamond Phillips and tell the story of "a tough L.A. street poet" whose "life becomes a roller coaster when she tries to get her mother out of jail." The film has a theatrical release date of September 21.

Sponsored by HBO, the NYILFF will kick off on Monday, August 12, with a presentation of Selena at Cinema Under The Stars, a free outdoor screening at St. Nicholas Park on St. Nicholas Avenue and 135th Street in Manhattan.
