About a month ago, the official website for Filly Brown displayed a release date of April 26 -- now it's back to "coming soon."
In late January, Deadline Hollywood reported that Indomnia Releasing, the distributor for the film, was closing down its distribution unit in Los Angeles. According to the article, an unnamed spokesperson for Indomnia denied a complete shutdown of the unit and said they were trying to find third-party outlets for Filly Brown and other projects.
Filly Brown captured lots of attention last year when it was named an official selection for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and Sundance London, with star Gina Rodriguez's performance earning kudos from all corners as the film played festival after festival.
Edward James Olmos, who serves as executive producer, also stars alongside fellow Stand and Deliver alumnus Lou Diamond Phillips and the late Jenni Rivera. EJO's son Michael D. Olmos and Youssef Delara co-directed the picture.
Suffice it to say, there's no set-in-stone theatrical release date for Filly Brown yet, but we'll keep you posted when we find out more.
