Last week, Edward James Olmos spoke to a group of youth from San Rafael, Calforinia's Canal neighborhood. The youth had just completed an eight-month "Future Professionals" filmmaking program by the California Film Institute, and Mr. Olmos spoke to them in celebration.
During the event, the Rafael Film Center screened Mr. Olmos' 1982 film "The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez." Robert M. Young, director of the film and a long-time colleague of Mr. Olmos, also was on hand for the event.
